Frequently asked questions
What does 115 GSM insect netting keep out?
It keeps out fruit fly, cabbage moths, white butterflies and other flying pests, as well as birds and possums, while letting light, air and water reach the plants. Very small insects such as thrips need a finer mesh than standard insect netting.
Should I buy the 2m or 3.1m width?
Measure over the top of the bed or frame and down both sides, then add enough to secure the edges at ground level. The 2m width suits most single garden beds and small frames; the 3.1m width covers wider beds, larger hoops and fruit trees with fewer joins.
Can insect netting stay on all season?
Yes. Because light, air and rain pass through, netting can stay on for the whole crop. Crops that need insects to pollinate them, such as pumpkins, zucchini and cucumbers, need the net opened at flowering or hand pollination.
How do I install insect netting so pests can't get in?
Support it on hoops or a frame so it doesn't rest on the leaves, then pin, bury or weigh down every edge at ground level. Most pest problems come from gaps at the edges, not from the mesh itself.
